Marlow is a charming, quintessentially English village in the Chiltern Hills on the banks of the Thames. Only 30 miles west of London, it provides a beautiful countryside setting as well as close proximity to the capital. Marlow appeals to many people, young families, commuters and retired house hunters alike. Being on the River Thames is a big pull, as is the annual Marlow Regatta. There’s a strong nautical community in this village, with a sailing club, rowing club as well as a sailing school to boot. There are picturesque walks, both by the river and up into the hills that circle the village. There are also plenty of shops to choose from, ranging from staple brands to independent, boutique shops. Tom Kerridge certainly approves of the area, his award-winning pub The Hand in Flowers is a must for locals and visitors, as does his friend the TV pundit Chris Evans who bought a large mansion on the river to be (allegedly) closer to him and his restaurants.

The chainlink bridge that links Marlow to Bisham on the south side of the river is Grade 1 listed, built in 1829 by William Clark and is a smaller version of the famous bridge spanning the Danube in Budapest.

The properties of Marlow are as beautiful as their surroundings. House hunters can choose from traditional flint and brick houses with large green spaces attached, gorgeous cottages as well as luxury developments and apartment buildings.

This village is extremely well connected, especially to London. Trains to Paddington take just over an hour and Heathrow is a mere half hour away too but not disrupted by noise or traffic. Coming soon is also a brand new Crossrail station at Maidenhead (10 minutes by car), this will take you to variety of stations including Bond Street in only 45 minutes. Marlow really is the best of both worlds.
