Pretty terraces mixed with new modern developments along the River Lea and a short walk or cycle to the city, Bow has something for everyone.
Bow is a hidden treasure by all local accounts. The character of this East London hub is double sided: the old Bow which is full of charming conservation areas and the new Bow, along the River Lea where years of industrial history are being swept away in favour of new, riverside homes. The area is home to some impressive past residents including Indian independence campaigner Mahatma Ghandi, as well as the Women’s Suffrage movement’s Sylvia Pankhurst. Bow’s Roman Road is home to a weekly market, selling clothes, plants and groceries from stall owners. The market has been running for 150 years and stretches for a quarter of a mile.
The area has a lot to recommend it, including Offsted approved good schools and a vibrant community of independent restaurants and markets. Victoria Park, dubbed London’s “most beautiful outdoor space” by Time Out, is nearby too. Bow has conservations areas with Georgian terrace houses, as well as plenty two and three storey Victorian properties, both used as houses and flat buildings.
There are three tubenic stations in Bow, making it a very well-connected area. Bromley-By-Bow, Bow and Mile End are all on the Hammersmith & City line and the District line, with Mile End on the Central Line too. Buses are readily available into central London too.
