Southfields is a bit of a hotspot for tennis lovers. Home to the All England Lawn Tennis Club, each summer tennis fans flock to Southfields with strawberries and champagne to enjoy the sporting spoils Southfields offers. For the rest of the year, it has a sleepy village feel, despite being in Zone 3 and a short hop and skip away from Earl’s Court. This pretty enclave grabs property hunter’s attention because of the attractive tree-lined streets and spacious Edwardian homes. Home to independent butchers and boutique shops, Southfields is an advert for living it up with its many walks, theatres and libraries.

The main residential area of Southfields is ‘The Grid’, which is a series of parallel roads that cross at right angles. The Grid consists almost entirely of Edwardian terraced houses, some of which have been converted into flats, although conversions have now been restricted by the local council. In 1904 the Frame Foods baby food company opened a factory. The building, now converted into flats, is Art Nouveau style with green ceramic tiles, and the slogan ‘Nourish & Flourish!’ still visible on the outside. As well as Victorian and Edwardian terraces, there are larger detached and semi-detached 1930s and 1950s houses.

Southfields is on the District Line, with Victoria only 25 minutes away and buses into Central London are easily available. Rail links are exported to Wandsworth Town and Earlsfield and Gatwick and Heathrow are both under an hour away.

The tennis theme continues to transport in Southfields, as residents have been known to decorate its tube station for the Wimbledon fortnight by covering the platform with fake green grass.
