Located in the East of London, Mile End offers pockets of serenity as well as a thriving restaurant and bar scene. The area was renovated after the Second World War due to the extensive bombing and is now laden with attractive terraced houses, often done up with polished modern finishes. Flats are popular property investments in the area, as well as semi-detached houses due to the proximity of the city.
Of particular note are the beautiful Georgian houses that form Tredegar Square, built between 1830-1847. They form part of a protected conservation area that was created in 1971 and are extremely desirable. They take their name from Baronet Tredegar and also share their name with a town in South Wales where the Tredegar family estate was based.
The local residents enjoy the green space provided by the Mile End Park as well as the picturesque canal walks. The area also has a skate park and a climbing wall for the outdoorsy types. There is a wealth of great, traditional pubs like Royal Inn On The Park, The Lord Tredegar and The Lauriston-which also offers great pizzas. Our local expert Chris gets his coffee from Mae & Harvey and loves local shops and cafes like Cafè East. As for great restaurants, Chris’s top picks are My Neighbours the Dumplings and The Sultan Grill for great Turkish food. Oh, you can also find London’s best pie and mash at GKelly Pie and Mash.
Only three and a half miles from Charing Cross, Mile End is well connected. Mile End Tube Station is on the central and district lines, with extensive bus routes too.
If you’re looking to buy or rent in the Mile End area, Chris would be more than happy to help.
