Two miles North West of Charing Cross, at the end of Oxford Street and sandwiched between Regents Park to the north and Mayfair to the South, is Marylebone, a highly individual area in the heart of central London. For hundreds of years it’s an area that’s held its own in a city that’s constantly changing. Full of wonderful places to eat, drink and play, it’s been that way forever. In the 18th century, Marylebone Gardens was a non-stop party spot, complete with prize fights and other entertainment.
Things might be a little more austere these days, but you can still have a grand time. Marylebone Village is exactly as it sounds, a peaceful oasis in the centre of the chaos, filled with independent shops, chic restaurants and cafes, and a true sense of calm. Listen to jazz, drink a cocktail or sit and watch the world go by. The high street is particularly strong and those that live there are staunch supporters of their ‘diamond in the rough’. Not that the surrounding areas are rough by any stretch - it’s just that Marylebone is a particularly bright glint in the eye of the local residents.

The area also boasts a fine collection of cultural activities. Browse the shelves at the world famous Daunt Books, visit the stunning Wallace Collection or pop into the Anaesthesia Heritage Centre, one of London’s most unique museums.
Hungry? Not a problem in Marylebone. Grab some fine cheese for after dinner at La Fromagerie, or stop for a pint and roast at The Grazing Goat or Coachmakers Arms. Most recently, Marylebone was chosen to be the home for the new outpost from legendary London restaurant, St John. Fight to get a table and enjoy the best British inspired food in the city. How’s that for a local!
Property wise, Marylebone is surprisingly diverse considering its central location. There are compact studio flats and elegant Georgian townhouses, all wrapped up in the aforementioned village vibe. Although properties are rare in Montague and Bryanston Square, they’re beautiful examples of historic London architecture by Joseph Parkinson.
