This West London gem offers all the benefits or rural life and urban living in one great package

Ealing is anything but the wild west. Known as the ‘Queen of the Suburbs’ in the 1880s, Ealing is the perfect marriage of city living and idyllic rural life, complete with beautiful, tree-lined streets complete with huge Victorian homes broken into flats, maisonettes, and entire family homes. It has brilliant connections back into the city via the Central Line and regular trains into Paddington (making it great for Heathrow, too), and most recently the shiny and incredibly quick Elizabeth Line that runs all the way from Reading in the West to Shenfield in the East and pretty much most places in-between.

And the village life isn’t just reserved for the green spaces and architecture. Ealing boasts a brilliant and active community of locals who’ve brought festivals, galleries and art groups to the area. When people move to Ealing, they tend to stay, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t wonderful properties that regularly come to market.

Ealing Village is a Grade II listed Art Deco housing estate and a great example of the range of properties available in Ealing. Designed in the 1930s, Ealing Village was an attempt to attract film stars working at the still functioning, world-famous Ealing Studios. But perhaps the most desirable are the large five and six bed detached Victorian houses in the Mount Park Conservation Area. But there are also wonderful flats surrounding Ealing’s green spaces, including the common, like those in Gunnersbury Manor on Elm Avenue. The Ealing skyline remains relatively unobstructed by shiny new builds, with some chic developments in the form of The Apex and Curve buildings.

On the nightlife front, Ealing doesn’t disappoint either. Charlotte’s Place has been feeding the locals for over 30 years, while the Drayton Court Hotel has kept them refreshed and relaxed with great drinks and one of London’s largest beer gardens. The Castle Inn has another lovely beer garden and champions local brewers.
