Battersea is known to Londoners as a prime riverside setting, perfect for families and young professionals alike. It’s no wonder more and more house hunters are flocking to the Queen Anne style houses, mansion blocks and cottages. The construction of Battersea Park in the mid 19th century marked a turning point for this area, which was previously a cross-section of farmland and railways. Now, its well-preserved Victorian terrace houses are prime London properties.

Although often nicknamed “Nappy Valley”, there are plenty of night spots along Northcote Road, one of the most popular independent shopping roads in Southwest London. For the younger (or young at heart) residents, such as Numero Uno and authentic sherry and tapas bars keep people entertained until the early hours. Clapham Grand, a great live music venue and The Battersea Arts Centre make up the fabric of Battersea’s cultural offering too. On the weekends, there are unmissable farmer’s markets such as Northcote Road Market.  

Battersea’s transport links appeal to locals because of the proximity to Central London and The City. Clapham Junction, confusingly located at the heart of Battersea, provides trains into London and further afield outside the capital. The Northern Line is forecasted to offer new Tube stations at Battersea and Nine Elms by 2021.
